Gwendal Giguelay is a pianist of Breton origin. Trained in Rennes and then at the Conservatoires Nationaux Supérieurs de Musique et de Danse in Paris and Lyon, he won the Scaramuzza Prize at the Les Corts Competition in Barcelona (2008) and the Musicians Between War and Peace Prize at the Ravel Academy in Saint-Jean de Luz (2010). He performs as a soloist in France and abroad, and has recorded Chopin's 24 Études opus 10 and 25 for the BY Classique label (2022).
A passionate chamber musician, he also forms a duo with cellist Louis Rodde, with whom he recorded the CD Sonates (Fauré, Ropartz), released on the NoMadMusic label (2016). He also collaborates regularly with the Octuor de France and the Académie Musicale de Villecroze.
Passionate about orchestral performance and repertoire, Gwendal is regularly invited to play piano and celesta with the Orchestre National d’Île-de-France. Since 2018, he has been coaching students from the Orchestre Français des Jeunes Talents and accompanying them at concerts and competitions in China, Austria, Latvia, and elsewhere.
A specialist in improvisation, he regularly accompanies silent films and lends himself to original artistic experiences such as comic book concerts (notably with authors Catel & Bocquet), performances at the Venice Biennale, and cinema: he appears on screen in Philippe Béziat's film Noces (2011). In 2025, he composed the music for the show Entre-Temps by the DCA-Philippe Decouflé company, which he performed on tour.
Gwendal Giguelay has a special relationship with the world of dance and movement. He has collaborated with numerous companies and institutions such as the Paris Opera Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Pichet Klunchun Dance Company, and INSEP. He trains dancers in pedagogy at the Centre National de la Danse in Pantin and is sought after by various choreographic schools. He regularly composes music for the variations of the Ministry of Culture.
Gwendal Giguelay holds a Master in pedagogy and teaches piano and improvisation; he is regularly invited to teach in Asia and Africa. In 2016, he received the Music Teaching Award from the Chambre Syndicale des Éditeurs de Musique de France.
His three educational books have been published by Éditions First: Improvising on the Piano for Dummies (2017), The Great Piano Classics for Dummies (2018), and Classical Masterpieces in Cinema for Dummies (2020).
